Delhi owes the distinction for housing some of the magnificent modern temples of India. The city has a nice blend of ancient and modern temples. Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, Chattarpur Mandir, Iskcon Temple, Lotus Temple, Kali Bari Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, Kalkaji Mandir are most frequented by tourists and devotees.
Bangla Sahib Gurudwara
Bangla Sahib Gurdwara is situated just a furlong away from the main Connaught Place and has become a centre of pilgrimage for lakhs of people who throng the Gurdwara everyday. People belonging to different religions, castes, color visit this shrine to pay their respect everyday.
Chattarpur Mandir
Situated in the capital of India, the Chattarpur Mandir is a fine example which presents Delhi a place that has some spectacular Hindu Temples to it's credit. 4-km away from Qutb Minar, stands the flamboyant and rich temples of Chattarpur. Made of shining white marble, these temples are very popular with the city's Hindus and the queues during Durga Puja have to be seen to be believed. The main temple dedicated to goddess Durga is built in South Indian style.
The temple complex is spread over a large area with beautiful lawns and gardens. Though devotees visit these temples throughout the year, the main attraction comes during the Navarathri festival, when devotees come from far and near. During this time, there are special bus services provided to the devotees.
Iskcon Temple
ISKCON temples are dedicated to Lord Krishna and were built by the Hare-Rama Hare-Krishna cult followers. These complexes are elegantly built and are few of the largest temple complexes in India. There are beautiful paintings of Russian artists on the different past times of Radha Krishna, Sita, Ram, Laxman, Hanuman and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Special programmes like Kirtan, Aarti, Pravachan and Prasadam are held every Sunday.
Kali Bari Mandir
The Kali Bari Mandir is rather small and very simple in design. From within the temple grows a huge peepul tree that pierces through the ceiling to shade the temple. The peepul is considered sacred by Hindus and red threads are tied around its bark when beseeching a boon.
Hanuman Mandir
Hanuman acquired immortal fame after rendering invaluable service to Lord Rama. Hanuman is regarded as the epitome of sacrifice, devotion, bravery and loyalty. A character of highest morals, Hanuman is worshipped throughout the country with great zeal. Sri Bhaktha Anjaneya Temple, Sri Veeramangalam Anjaneyar Temple, Sri Yoga Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Sri Anjaneya Temple, Sankatmochan Temple are some the Hanuman Temples in India.
Kalkaji Mandir
Situated beyond the commercial complex of Nehru Place lies this temple dedicated to the goddess Kalka Devi. Its oldest section dates back to 1764 and additions were made in the mid-19 th century. However most of the building is modern. Thousands of pilgrims throng the temple, especially in October during the nine days of navratrey, when a huge fair is held here.
